ZURU is on a mission to disrupt across industries, challenge the status quo and catalyst change through radical innovation and automation advances. This is in play in different pillars of the company: ZURU Toys are re-imagining what it means to play; ZURU Tech is shaping a better future by leading the next building revolution; ZURU Edge is pioneering new generation FMCG brands to better serve modern consumers.

Founded in 2003 by EY Entrepreneur of the Year and World Entrepreneur Hall of Fame brothers Nick and Mat Mowbray, ZURU has quickly grown to a team of over 5000 direct and indirect members across more than 30 international locations.

One of the largest toy companies in the world, globally recognised and award-winning brands include Bunch O Balloons, Mini Brands, XSHOT, Rainbocorns and Smashers. Our global FMCG brands include MONDAY Haircare, Rascals, NOOD, BONKERS, Gumi Yum Surprise, and more!

The Role

The People & Culture Business Partner will be a trusted partner and connector within ZURU, enabling leaders to confidently own people leadership in line with ZURU's belief that everybody is responsible for HR. This role works closely with leaders across New Zealand, Australia, the USA, Canada, and Central America, providing pragmatic people advice, embedding and executing consistent frameworks, and ensuring defensible, high-quality people decisions in a fast-moving, global environment.

This role plays a critical part in translating ZURU's DNA into scalable, practical people frameworks that drive high performance across the business. By designing, embedding, and continuously improving core people processes (onboarding, performance, engagement, mobility, employee relations), the People & Culture Business Partner ensures consistency and alignment across multiple geographies, while maintaining the pace and flexibility required in a high-growth, high-performance environment. The role also contributes to the rollout of ZURU's global people master plan, ensuring initiatives land effectively with leaders and teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

Business Partnering & Leader Enablement

  • Coach and partner with leaders across multiple regions on performance management, feedback, development, engagement, and team effectiveness
  • Up-skill leaders to confidently lead people matters themselves, reinforcing ZURU's "leader-led" people model.
  • Act as a sounding board for complex or sensitive people situations, providing clear, pragmatic guidance

Employee Relations & Risk Management

  • Lead employee relations matters from a process, governance, and risk perspective, while empowering leaders to own conversations and outcomes
  • Ensure people decisions are fair, consistent, and defensible, aligned with local employment legislation and ZURU DNA
  • Partner with external employment law advisors to navigate jurisdiction-specific ER matters as required.

Onboarding & Core People Frameworks

  • Own and continuously improve ZURU's onboarding experience to ensure all new team members are set up for success, regardless of location.
  • Design, embed, and deliver practical people frameworks across onboarding, annual performance reviews, recognition and engagement, leadership training, mobility, and career development.
  • Ensure frameworks are scalable, easy for leaders to use, and consistently applied across regions.

Global Workforce Support

  • Support people operations across NZ, Australia, USA, Canada, and Central America, working closely with external immigration and ER partners.
  • Partner with the business on relocations, ensuring a consistent and equitable approach aligned with policy and business needs
  • Provide guidance on international employment considerations, escalating to specialists where required.

Data, Insight & Continuous Improvement

  • Use people data and insights to inform decision-making, identify trends, and proactively address risks.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and rollout of ZURU's global people initiatives and master plan.
  • Continuously improve processes to balance speed, simplicity, and compliance.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in a People & Culture / HR Business Partner or Senior HR Generalist role, ideally in a fast-paced, global or multi-jurisdiction environment.
  • Exceptional people skills, able to build trust and credibility quickly, influence at all levels, negotiate effectively, and engage in radical candour.
  • Strong judgement and the ability to navigate ambiguity, complexity, and grey areas with confidence and decisiveness.
  • Solid working knowledge of employee relations and employment legislation, with experience partnering with external legal advisors.
  • Highly pragmatic mindset, able to balance commercial outcomes, people experience, and risk.
