Software Engineer Co-Op- Billing

Location: Boston, MA

Program Dates: January – June 2026

Hours: Full-time (40 hours/week)

About the Role:

We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical co-op to support the development and maintenance of Zipcar's billing systems and financial operations. These are the critical systems that process payments and manage financial workflows for our car sharing platform.

This role requires a methodical problem solver with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with enterprise billing systems while supporting major modernization initiatives.

What You'll Do:

  • Support billing system maintenance and invoice processing workflows
  • Assist with integration testing for payment systems and customer billing processes
  • Contribute to billing documentation and process improvement initiatives
  • Assist with new billing engine transition and migration activities
  • Investigate and resolve billing-related support tickets and discrepancies
  • Collaborate with finance and engineering teams on system upgrades
  • Support compliance reporting and seasonal billing volume management
  • Participate in code reviews and testing procedures for billing system changes
  • Work within an Agile framework alongside cross-functional teams

  • Databases: PostgreSQL
  • Cloud & DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, AWS/GCP/Azure
  • Tools: Git, Jira, IntelliJ, Postman

What We're Looking For:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Familiarity with financial systems, billing processes, or accounting principles
  • Experience with SQL databases and data analysis
  • Basic understanding of API testing and system integration concepts
  • Experience with testing methodologies and documentation practices is a plus
  • Familiarity with payment processing systems or fintech applications is a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with technical and business teams
  • Interest in financial technology and billing system operations
  • Minimum GPA 3.0

Good-Faith Salary Range:

The hourly rate for this position is between $20-24 per hour. Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
