Java Engineer Opportunity

ZigZag is looking for a Java Engineer to join our team!

Our client is an established fintech company building the next generation of payments solutions. Our Tech Delivery Team owns our payment platform end-to-end, including critical backend systems that process high-volume, low-latency transactions securely and reliably. We're currently looking for an experienced Java Engineer to help build, maintain, and evolve the core of our payment processing systems.

About the Role

As a Java Engineer in the Tech Delivery Team, you'll work on developing and maintaining the core services responsible for card and PayTo payment authorisation and processing. You'll be part of a cross-functional team focused on scalability, security, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues in existing software.
  • Work on improving performance, scalability, and reliability of our client's services.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest Java technologies and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Min 5 years of professional experience in backend development with Java.
  • Experience building distributed systems and working on high-throughput backend services.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL systems.
  • Experience with message brokers (Kafka, EventBridge, etc.) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools (e.g., BuildKite, etc).
  • Familiarity with AWS.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
