Sales & Use Tax Accountant

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review invoices for appropriate use tax and recommend accruals where needed.
  • Research tax laws as it relates to the sales and use tax compliance requirements for each jurisdiction.
  • Prepare monthly and recurring journal entries for tax payments and receipts.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations for all sales and use tax and property tax accounts and ensure accuracy.
  • Resolve any sales and use tax and property tax related discrepancies or issues in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review multi-jurisdiction monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax filings prepared by third-party to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Maintain and organize sales tax files, records, and statements.
  • Review vendor qualifications to receive exemption documents in compliance with applicable regulations and maintain exemption documentation for vendors.
  • Respond and manage notices from tax jurisdictions and support the resolution of issues.
  • Coordinate all tax related audits.
  • Prepare property tax renditions and timely file annual property tax returns to the proper assessing authorities.
  • Maintain property tax tracker for all properties.
  • Coordinate with third party property tax appeals consultant.
  • Respond to tax-related inquiries from management team.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, including accounting, legal, and finance.
  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with assessors, collectors, customers, and third parties.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in consumer retail industry strongly preferred.
  • Five years related experience.
  • Deadline-driven, results-oriented person with great attention to detail.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in the use and application of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work minimal supervision.
