The Xcel Energy Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT) Team seeks a student intern to learn and lead transmission service evaluation and studies. This paid internship offers you the opportunity to hone your engineering, analysis, and leadership skills, and work with engineers and other leaders across the company. The OATT Team provides program and technical leadership to all parts of Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCo)/Xcel Energy. You will be expected to bring your best to this high-energy, agile team.

Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • OATT Program Support
  • Develop and update internal databases.
  • Support preparation of study reports, summaries, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders regarding studies and findings.
  • Research historical, current, and proposed OATT provisions.
  • Collaborate with transmission planning and modeling, resource planning, substation and transmission line engineering, regulatory affairs, and transmission business relations teams to ensure accuracy and consistency in OATT program study methodologies and outcomes.

This position is for a June 1st, 2026 start. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship's initial term based on the candidate's successful performance and Xcel Energy's business needs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current student, Junior or Senior status (as of Fall 2026).
  • Enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program, with an electrical engineering emphasis.
  • Able to commute to the corporate office in Denver, CO.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher.
  • Completed at least 2 years of undergraduate engineering coursework, including coursework in power engineering.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $22.50 to $24.00 per hour. This position is eligible for the following benefits: Pension, 401(k) plan, Paid time off (PTO), Holidays.
