Lead Consultant, Advisory Services

The WSP US Advisory practice is dedicated to transforming the business of infrastructure across the transportation, buildings, energy, water, environment, and power sectors. We provide our clients with the full range of strategic planning, organizational development, economic and financial analysis and project development and delivery services supported by WSP's engineering expertise in all infrastructure markets. With changing economic conditions, evolving government priorities, aging assets and emerging technologies, clients rely on the Advisory Services team for its unique combination of infrastructure delivery expertise and management consulting leadership. We help clients develop, procure, manage, finance and invest in infrastructure assets to successfully deliver programs and projects. We are looking for a motivated individual to join our Business Transformation service area. This individual will join a group of trusted advisors in delivering business and operational solutions while helping to shape the future growth of the nation's built environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing guidance with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, spreadsheets, financial documents, federal legislation, grant requirements, and other matrices for project development, design, consultation, and construction.
  • Applying high-level management consulting and client advisement to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Developing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for more complex or involved initiatives; preparing construction phasing plans, process reengineering within large infrastructure organizations, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, external stakeholders, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Being involved from project inception to completion in the management of design and construction of infrastructure projects, including project approval, funding, rehabilitation and/or reconstruction, new construction, oversight, advisement, and analysis.
  • Developing and incorporating advanced technologies, building materials, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, innovative practices, and operating strategies to account for the financial viability, approval, safety and functionality of end-users, and project success for clients.
  • Collaborating with professionals from a variety of disciplines to foster and provide "trusted advisor" service and future-ready solutions for clients.
  • Overseeing and monitoring cross-functional teams of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including budgets, tracking hours and expenses, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, technical calculations, permit applications, construction, collaboration with thought leaders, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical requirements.
  • Leading business case preparation for infrastructure development and initiating client advisement on funding, finance, and delivery of capital projects.
  • Preparing data and visualizations such as tables, charts, quantitative/qualitative analyses, spreadsheets, accurate reports, calculations, and/or illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of more complex data, findings, or analyses.
  • Conducting and applying research using demonstrated skills and relevant experience in planning, transportation, environmental, energy, or related discipline.
  • Maintaining quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical and financial analysis, organizational development, and reporting.
  • Providing guidance and training to junior-level staff.
  • Leading and/or participating in client meetings and interacting directly and independently with clients to understand and meet requirements for projects.
  • Proactively applying knowledge regarding the range of services provided by the various Advisory Services business lines in support of marketing efforts, business development pursuits, leads, and proposals.
  • Preparing comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, concepts, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, or address environmental, design, and/or construction issues or opportunities.
  • Analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting data obtained during site/field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk mitigation activities.
  • Complying with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
  • Interacting with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
  • Remaining current in the latest management consulting and advisory services techniques and practices.
  • Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Data Sciences, Business, Economics, Finance, Urban or Transportation Planning, Environmental Studies, Liberal Arts, Public Policy, Operations Research, or closely related discipline.
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant post education experience in discipline and in a management consulting or client advisory capacity.
  • Proficient with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of management consulting and ability to coordinate with clients, agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Well-defined specific knowledge of relevant laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Well-developed ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of financial principles, legislation, plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, technology, math principles, predictive models, data science, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree is preferred.

Compensation:
