A little more about your role…

We are seeking a Roads Carbon Management Engineer based out of any of our UK offices (preferably London). You will require strong technical capability in civil infrastructure with leadership in carbon assessment and management aligned with PAS 2080 Carbon Management in Buildings and Infrastructure standard. You will need both strong communicative skills and an aptitude for technical work that can be applied in new and innovative areas. We will help you to broaden your experience and deepen your specialist skills in line with your career aspirations.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading and support carbon management inputs for highways and multidisciplinary infrastructure projects across all stages of design.
  • Acting as the Carbon Lead on projects, embedding PAS 2080 principles, coordinating low-carbon solutions with the Client, ECI contractors and suppliers.
  • Challenging designs to identify opportunities for carbon reduction and climate resilience.
  • Developing and applying carbon assessment methodologies, governance and tools.
  • Advising clients on low-carbon innovation and climate-resilient opportunities. Identifying and implementing innovative processes and materials for projects.
  • Contributing Net Zero inputs into strategic pursuits and proposals, including coordinating and preparing technical and commercial responses.
  • Helping build WSP Net Zero process, fostering a collaborative, 'carbon conscious' culture across our Roads and wider T&I teams.
  • Supporting technical development and upskilling of colleagues, including technical leadership and assurance of deliverables.
  • Contributing to continual improvement and business development within the Roads Net Zero team and National Carbon management activities.
  • Reporting achieved carbon reductions back to the client through internal WSP carbon processes.

Your team

Our Roads Net Zero team sits within our wider Roads group and guides clients and colleagues through transport and infrastructure decarbonisation, embedding carbon thinking at the heart of our projects.

We deliver carbon assessment and management for transport infrastructure projects; quantifying and assessing carbon to inform strategies and plans, provide carbon management reporting and develop carbon management policies and advice for clients.

Since its inception three years ago, our Transport Net Zero team has led industry change—authoring the Department for Transport's Quantifiable Carbon Reduction guidance; working with Sub-National Transport Bodies to develop baseline emissions models and support regional decarbonisation strategies; advising local authority clients; and developing carbon management policies for major transport programmes and organisations.

As one of the largest suppliers of professional services to various clients, we influence change through client engagement, we invest heavily in R&D to drive innovation across decarbonisation and climate resilience. Our current frameworks and strategic partnerships spanning National Highways (SDF), National Grid (GGP) work and other frameworks provide a strong platform for impact and growth.

Joining the team at this critical time for climate action presents a great opportunity to influence transport policies, shape WSP's and our client's decarbonisation approaches, and play a meaningful role on the national pathway to net zero.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Experience in carbon assessments and management of transport infrastructure, including familiarity with PAS 2080
  • Multi-discipline experience in infrastructure projects in design life cycle including construction
  • Experience in technical leadership of projects, with an associated client facing role
  • An understanding of the principles of Net Zero in a transport context
  • Confidence in working in complex project teams (often cross-discipline) and ability to upskill staff on best practices in carbon reduction
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence in adapting complex information into concise, plain-language summaries
  • A deep interest and passion for delivering Net Zero

Imagine a better future for you and a better future for us all. Join our close-knit community of talented individuals who share your passion for making a positive impact. Our global team includes more than 69,000 employees, working together to make a difference in communities both close to home and around the world. With us, you can. Apply today.
