Fire Engineer

The Fire Engineer will be part of the Fire Protection Engineering Team to serve as an expert technical consultant on fire safety, fire prevention, fire protection and life safety engineering issues for internal and external clients. The Fire Engineer will provide expert advice and perform highly advanced complex reviews of plans and specifications for fire protection planning, fire suppression, automatic sprinkler systems, life safety analysis and hazard analysis.

Responsibilities

Consulting engineering and project management for all fire safety and fire system design aspects of all assigned projects; the reviews of drawings and compliance in accordance with the applicable local and international codes and Preparation of Drawings for schematic design, detailed Design, Construction Drawings and Authority Approvals.

Develop fire safety plans for evacuation, way finding, firefighting equipment, fire wall ratings, escape widths, etc.

Write reports detailing rational designs which deviate from the deemed to satisfy rules solutions.

Prepare and write reports and develop drawings to detailing specific fire prevention and protection issues for new building projects and existing building upgrades.

Advice architects, builders, and other construction personnel on fire prevention equipment and techniques, and on fire code and standard interpretation and compliance.

Consult with authorities to discuss fire safety regulations and to recommend changes as necessary for projects.

Meetings with clients, architects and other professional team members.

Design Standpipe system, automatic sprinkler systems, Hydrant system, fire water reticulation systems etc. and other systems applicable to fire protection.

Prepare rational fire designs, tender documents and specifications, adjudication reports, concept reports, budgets, fee proposals etc.

Inspect buildings or building designs to determine fire protection system requirements and potential problems in areas such as fire water supplies, exit locations, and construction materials in relation to statutory compliance.

Attend workshops, seminars, or conferences to present or obtain information regarding fire prevention and protection.

Site inspections and construction monitoring of all fire systems and compile reports on findings.

Do financial control, payment and valuation certificates, cost reports.

Financial management of contracts, fee proposals, invoicing, etc.

Time management and resource management if identified as internal project manager of projects.

Qualifications

Mechanical / Civils Degree from an accredited university or Fire Technology Degree from an accredited university of technology in fire safety.

5-8 years' experience in Fire Engineering as well as Consulting Engineering experience would be advantageous.

Knowledge and experience in all local fire safety codes is key to carrying out code compliant fire safety designs. (British Standards/Euro Code/NCC of Australia/NFPA)

Knowledge and experience in other international codes and standards to carry out rational fire designs is also required. E.g. BS 9999, NFPA 101, BS 7974, IFEG, etc.
