Electrical Engineer Opportunity
Worley is supporting Alcoa Portland with a multidisciplinary team delivering engineering design services across sustaining capital and operational projects on a brownfield site.
We are looking for a motivated Electrical Engineer who is keen to grow their professional career while supporting a site-based project team at Alcoa's Portland aluminium smelter operations.
This role is based at the Alcoa Portland site (approximately 3.5 hours from Geelong or 5.5 hours from Melbourne) and requires candidates to be based locally and travel to site 5 days per week.
You will be supported by experienced engineers and designers on site to help develop your skills and complement your existing experience.
Responsibilities
- Deliver discipline-specific engineering services in line with Worley, client, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop fit-for-purpose engineering solutions from concept through to commissioning, considering safety, sustainability, operability, and maintainability.
- Identify engineering issues and develop practical, innovative solutions with support from senior team members.
- Prepare and review calculations, drawings, and engineering documentation in accordance with technical standards.
- Support project delivery including scope development, change management, and participation in design reviews, HAZIDs, and HAZOPs.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Worley processes, including self-checking and quality assurance of deliverables.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, systems, and processes.
Candidate Criteria
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor level or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical engineering design, preferably in brownfield environments.
- Strong understanding of Australian electrical standards and industrial systems.
- Experience across multiple project phases, including design, construction, and commissioning.
- Knowledge of electrical design elements such as equipment sizing, cable routing, layouts, protection systems, and control system interfaces.
- Exposure to hazardous area design (desirable).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work across concurrent projects.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and a collaborative mindset.
