Position Overview
Woolpert is hiring an Engineering Designer to join our dynamic Aviation team. This position is primarily responsible for performing engineering functions specific to aviation/airfield design under the direction of a Professional Engineer. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.
What You Will Do:
- Perform engineering computations, evaluations, design analyses, and design development
- Prepare reports, recommendations, and assessments for review by a Professional Engineer
- Apply standard engineering practices to analyze data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues
- Collaborate as part of a project team to develop data, designs, and applications
- Serve as a technical resource and advisor to junior technical staff
- Utilize AutoDesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD to create engineering designs and documentation
- Participate in firm-wide quality assurance and improvement initiatives
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop 2D and 3D models from multiple data sources in accordance with company standards
- Design and modify complex layouts and drawings based on general specifications
- Communicate effectively with the design team to support project deliverables
- Manage assigned tasks while adhering to project scope, schedule, and budget
- Perform basic civil engineering calculations and design using Civil 3D
- Support engineering efforts on projects of varying complexity
- Assist with data collection and analysis to inform design decisions
- Evaluate project solutions for structural integrity, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness
- Oversee preparation of as-built drawings
- Support construction administration, including reviewing plans and incorporating field updates
What You Will Bring:
- Minimum of 8 years of horizontal aviation design experience.
- Physically and mentally capable of performing all essential job functions.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents and drawings.
- Strong understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Ability to respond professionally to inquiries from clients, regulatory agencies, and the business community.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoDesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD, including profiling, feature lines, 3D polylines, points, daylighting, and grading objects.
- Experience importing and working with survey data from various file types.
- Ability to perform volume calculations using surface models.
- Experience designing and developing:
- Stormwater systems and pipe network profiles
- Underdrain systems and profiles
- Three-line profiles for runways and taxiways
- Knowledge of airport design standards, including layout of airport features and pavement markings in accordance with FAA Advisory Circulars (preferred)
- Ability to perform manual spot elevation calculations at intersections
- Familiarity with construction survey layout practices
- Ability to sit for extended periods and operate standard office equipment
- Occasional reaching and bending
- Ability to frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds

Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Pay Range $75,400 - $113,200 USD
