Engineering Manager

Wood has a requirement for an Engineering Manager join their Production Optimisation team within the Consulting business in Malaysia.

Wood has the largest independent team of specialists within its Production Optimisation Consulting business, which includes flow assurance, multiphase flow simulation, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), process simulations, production chemistry, operations troubleshooting and metering & allocation.

Our specialist team supports our customers with innovative technology, sound engineering practices, and robust analytics and field-proven digital tools. Our expertise spans all project stages for onshore and offshore assets. We understand and mitigate key flow assurance issues through our technical consulting services, from design to operations. We are focused on improving efficiency, safety and cost. For more than two decades, we have successfully delivered on over 4,000 flow assurance and related consulting services projects for 200+ companies worldwide.

To support our continued growth, we are searching for a solution-orientated and creative leader who has the technical knowledge and people leadership skills to steer our Production Optimisation business unit. You must have:

  • A solid career foundation in flow assurance and process engineering for hydrocarbon systems
  • An integrated systems focus with demonstrable knowledge of the upstream (process) and downstream (wells, reservoir) aspects and the ability to manage multiple interfaces
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes and good practice guidelines
  • Customer focus with client-facing experience, proven study management and delivery to budget and schedule expectations
  • Strong influencing skills, specifically for clients and or external parties

Further areas of technical experience are desirable:

  • Operations experience
  • Experience in the design and / or operation of CCS systems, be familiar with different elements of the value chain and have a focus on CO2-rich fluid transport and storage
  • Experience in addressing challenges associated with transport of CO2-rich fluid, including phase equilibria and thermodynamics, thermophysical properties of such fluids and the impact of impurities, thermo-hydraulic aspects and chemical reactions

Responsibilities

  • Lead the safe, efficient execution and delivery of Production Optimisation and Flow Assurance consultancy services
  • Own technical assurance for discipline deliverables, ensuring compliance with corporate, client, and regulatory standards
  • Approve and review simulations, calculations, and technical deliverables in accordance with Wood procedures
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and process safety risks, driving the elimination of incidents through robust reviews, controls, and lessons learned
  • Perform and oversee steady‑state and transient flow simulations and provide expert support across flow assurance scopes (Hâ‚‚, oil, gas/condensate, COâ‚‚, water and chemical injection systems)
  • Manage discipline cost, schedule, and resource commitments, including progress tracking and reporting
  • Develop, mentor, and sustain a high‑performing engineering team through competency development, coaching, knowledge sharing, and succession planning
  • Champion a culture of engineering excellence, continuous improvement, innovation, and safety‑by‑design
  • Support business development through proposal preparation and contribution to winning consultancy work
  • Represent Wood with clients through project and study leadership and by building and maintaining strategic relationships
  • Participate in or lead technical audits, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

Bachelors (minimum) or Masters (preferred) Degree in an engineering discipline, including chemical engineering, flow assurance, mechanical engineering.

Chartership, Professional Engineer (PE) status or equivalent relevant professional license/registration from a recognised national or industry engineering institution is desirable.

To be successful in this role, the following skills and experience will include:

  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, tenacity and have excellent communication skills
  • Significant experience (typically >15 years) in design and/or operation of subsea and/or onshore pipeline systems
  • Ability to assist with identifying and pursuing new business opportunities
  • Fully familiar with challenges associated with transport of multiphase, hydrocarbon and CO2-rich fluids, including fluid mechanics, phase equilibria and thermodynamics, thermophysical properties of such fluids, chemical interactions, key flow assurance risks and integrity risks
  • Fully familiar with existing fluid modelling tools/ thermodynamic engines e.g. Multiflash or PVTSim (preferably the former) flow assurance modelling tools (OLGA, PIPESIM, LedaFlow, etc)
  • Strong technical writing skills, specifically for issuing project reports to clients and or external parties
