Primary duties and responsibilities include maintaining a positive attitude, generating a friendly atmosphere, providing prompt, efficient and friendly customer service, planning, preparing, and adjusting work schedules, supervising and coordinating activities of employees, learning to formulate pricing philosophies, ensuring proper customer service, evaluating employee performance, training and enforcing safety procedures, compiling and understanding managerial data, ordering merchandise, training workers, ensuring compliance, determining ad and promotional displays, explaining store services, understanding store accounting, maintaining adherence to guidelines, and reporting to work on time.
Secondary duties and responsibilities include determining motivational needs, staying current with market trends, providing continuous education, selling merchandise, handling cash registers, recommending cost reduction programs, reviewing personnel records, recommending merchandise additions, assisting in other areas, and performing other job related duties.
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics include problem-solving, arithmetic calculations, interviewing, guiding people, technical manuals, and increased contact with people. Education and experience include high school or equivalent experience and two years or more of similar or related work experience preferred. Supervisory responsibilities include instructing, assigning work, reviewing work, planning the work of others, maintaining standards, allocating personnel, and coordinating the activities of others. Selects new employees, acts on employee problems, and has the authority to recommend employee transfers, promotions, discipline, discharge, and salary adjustments.
Physical requirements include the ability to perform medium work, visual requirements, and various physical activities. Working conditions include exposure to dust, noise, temperature extremes, equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, chemicals, and solvents. This is a fast-paced work environment. Equipment used includes pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, knives, trash compactor, cardboard baler, fork lift, computer, calculator, telephone, FAX machine, two wheeler, register computer, ordering machine, delivery vehicle, Western Union, Hunting/Fishing license computer, and money order machine. Financial responsibility includes purchasing merchandise, supplies, and ordering repairs on equipment. Contacts include daily contact with customers, employees, suppliers/vendors, general public, and occasional contact with federal or state regulatory agencies. Confidentiality includes access to pricing, sales reports, profit and loss reports, and wages.
