Job Requirements:

Strattec Security Corporation is a world-leader in designing and manufacturing vehicle access systems and we supply to all the major automakers. Our Milwaukee operations consist of die casting, metal stamping, and multiple plating lines. Automation controls engineers help create the layout of electrical and mechanical control systems. In this role, you may help program an automation process, modify existing programming when necessary, and help ensure the company is using the safest and most productive system possible for its needs. You may also be responsible for creating training documentation to show employees how to control and adjust their operations. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and interfaces directly with Strattec\'s executive leadership regularly.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following. Other Duties May Be Assigned.

  • Design and develop control systems for automated machinery and equipment.
  • Conduct system testing and validation procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements.
  • Develop and implement software for control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing control systems.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications and operation manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments.
  • Train personnel on the use and operation of control systems.
  • Perform regular system maintenance and updates.
  • Integrate new technologies into existing systems.
  • Participate in the developing business plans, commissioning and start-up of new equipment.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to other departments as needed.
  • Analyze data from control systems to improve processes and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for equipment and software purchases.
  • Participate in daily continuous improvement activities to optimize current processes and reduce scrap and cost.
  • Train Maintenance team members to reduce and eliminate machine downtime.
  • Positive communication and attitudes are vital for success. Providing employees with feedback and direction will be required to achieve goals.
  • Identify, develop, and/or maintain strong internal and external customer and supplier relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with the Strattec PDP process, TS16949, and ISO Quality Standards.
  • Periodic travel to customers, suppliers, trade shows, and other Strattec facilities is required (~10%).

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Sr. Engineer - Automation and Controls could be responsible to 5 team members, including exempt and non-exempt employees.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of HMI and SCADA systems.

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Experience in project management and team leadership.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in using CAD software for control system design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Hands-on experience with robotics and automation.

  • SQL, Stored Procedures and Reporting.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and procedures.
  • Experience in identifying and implementing automation opportunities.

  • Ability to give constructive criticism.
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in controls engineering or a similar role.
  • Proficiency in control system design and implementation.
  • Strong understanding of PLCs, DCS, and HMI systems.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and schematics.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Experience with software development and testing methodologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Physical ability to inspect and monitor equipment on-site when required.
