Community Services Liaison

The Department of Customer Service strives to deliver the best possible service. The Department serves as the official records custodian for City Government, Secretary to the Common Council, Secretary to the Public Safety and Licensing Committee, and is responsible for the issuance of approximately 50 different types of licenses. The Department of Customer Service is also responsible for all elections and tax payments in the City of Racine.

Position Purpose: We are looking for a community-oriented individual fluent in Spanish and English to join our team as a liaison between residents and City services. This position will be located at the Cesar Chavez Community Center and will serve as a welcoming resource in our satellite Department of Customer Service location. The position will be for 10 hours per week.

Essential Duties:

- Serve as an on-site contact to assist Spanish-speaking residents with questions about city services.

- Provide help completing forms, submitting service requests, and accessing available resources.

- Refer community members to appropriate city departments or partner agencies as needed.

- Translate basic communications and support language access efforts.

- Maintain a friendly and professional presence at the Cesar Chavez Community Center.

- Track common service inquiries and report feedback to the Customer Service Department.

- Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Environmental/Working Conditions of the Position:

Air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned work areas. Exposure to heat and cold elements while working with the public indoors and outdoors. Exposure to odors from cleaning products, floor strippers and waxes.

Physical Demands of the Position:

Possible stressful situations working with the public. Walking, sitting, standing, talking, hearing, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing/pulling, writing, driving, grasping, bending, twisting.

Equipment Used:

Copy machine, telephone, postage meter, computer, fax machine, and miscellaneous office equipment.

Other Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bilingual in Spanish and English (spoken and written).

- Valid Wisconsin Driver\'s License.

- High school diploma or its equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

- Customer service or community outreach experience.

- Familiarity with Racine neighborhoods and city operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Ability to resolve conflict in a professional, polite, and equitable manner. A demonstrated history of excellent work attendance. Ability to work independently. Passion for helping others and promoting equitable access to services. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with staff, officials, and the public.
