Automation Controls Engineer

Insight Global is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer for one of our clients in the consumer industry. Your typical day revolves around ensuring packaging machines run smoothly and efficiently. You'll spend time editing and testing Rockwell ControlLogix code, adjusting software parameters, and troubleshooting complex production issues to align machine performance with programming requirements. Documentation is a key part of your routine, as you'll archive updated software and record problem-solving processes for future reference. Collaboration is constant—you'll interface with clients, subcontractors, and colleagues to explain machine situations, code adjustments, and software processes. Some days may involve coordinating upgrades or rebuilds with the German headquarters, while others focus on hands-on commissioning of new equipment or providing remote support. Because this role requires roughly 70% travel, much of your work will take place at customer sites, where you'll operate in production environments, adhere to plant safety measures, and balance independent problem-solving with teamwork.

Skills and Requirements:

• 3–5+ years of experience with high-speed machines or automated equipment
• Expert knowledge of Allen-Bradley platforms
• Strong PLC programming and motion commissioning experience
• Ability to read and follow IEC electrical diagrams
• Thorough knowledge of industrial control devices (sensors, solenoid valves, drives, PLC I/O)
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• RSLogix 5000 required
