About the Role

We are seeking an IT Support Specialist/Engineer to provide end-user support for a wide range of technical issues affecting users across the Laboratory and Office. This role involves diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, and network problems; documenting solutions; and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure consistent and effective service delivery. This requires being on-site in San Mateo 1x/week.

As the IT Support Specialist/Engineer, you will:

  • Manage Systems: Assist with the design, deployment, maintenance, and support of client technologies including, but not limited to, workstations, laptops, audio/visual systems, and telecommunications, ensuring high-quality end-user experience.
  • Oversee Networking: Set up, troubleshoot, and manage network connections for remote device management, VPN configuration, and observability.
  • Provide Technical Hardware and Software Support: Analyze, troubleshoot, repair, and install & maintain computer systems hardware, operating environments, application software, and peripheral equipment such as printers and mobile devices. Responsible for dealing with hardware and software vendors.
  • Implement Incident Response and Problem Management: Set up observability and tools on systems and devices. Provide root cause analysis for problems related to technologies and develop measures to mitigate future occurrences.
  • Document: Document problem solutions and ensure the publication of solutions to common problems. This involves working with peers to develop and update documentation for IT processes and procedures.

About You

You are an IT professional who has experience managing both Windows and Mac operating systems. You have a strong understanding of best practices in IT, as well as experience with observability and tools for remote management and VPN configuration. You have worked in a biotech space before and are familiar with collaborating with various teams of different user needs to come up with solutions.

  • 5-10 years of experience working in an IT support or adjacent role
  • Experience with both Windows and Mac OS
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and managing Network, and Observability Tools (i.e. Cisco, Meraki, Datadog, TeamViewer, etc.)
  • Experience with Remote Management of Devices, Firewalls, and VPN configuration
  • Demonstrated experience configuring IP connectivity networks, route tables, and gateways following internet protocol best practices
  • Experience with productivity tools and license management (Office365).
  • Excellent organization, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to explain technology to a non-technical audience clearly and concisely.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (i.e. RS232, RS485, ModBus, OPC UA etc.) is highly desirable.

Location

San Mateo

$60 – $100/hr, depending on experience

6-month contract with option for renewal, expected up to 10 hours/week onsite
