Director of Operations – VFD Services
The Director of Operations – VFD Services is responsible for establishing, managing, and continuously improving Crimson's VFD Service Center operations. This role oversees both Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) drive services, including shop operations, field dispatch, and service execution. The Manager will coordinate internal (and needed external resources), implement systems for efficiency and accountability, and collaborate with other Crimson business lines (Electrical & Instrumentation, SCADA, Automation, Integrated Equipment Manufacturing and Integrated Projects) to ensure safe, reliable, and profitable service delivery.
This position is designed to provide strong operational leadership while engaging in work execution (as required), technician development, client relationships, and long-term growth of the VFD Service Center.
This position will require significant travel, up to 50%, to our various branches in Texas, New Mexico and Colorado.
Major Duties
- Build and manage daily operations of the VFD Service Center, including shop readiness, scheduling, and dispatching of personnel.
- Oversee both MV and LV service execution, ensuring resources are effectively coordinated.
- Maintain shop organization, tooling, and assets.
- Implement processes and systems that drive operational efficiency.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, internal & client standards).
- Lead by example in creating a strong culture of safety and accountability.
Team Leadership & Development
- Train, mentor, and evaluate technicians for both technical and cultural fit.
- Provide direction and career development for LV and MV service leads.
- Support recruitment and onboarding of new technicians.
- Build a culture of teamwork, accountability, and client focus.
Client & Business Support
- Work with Business Development / Account Management to scope and deliver service projects.
- Maintain strong client relationships through reliable service and professional communication.
- Act as an operational point of contact for client escalations.
Financial & Strategic Contribution
- Track and manage operational KPIs, budgets, and profitability.
- Support P&L responsibility for the VFD Service Center.
- Contribute to annual business planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Post-secondary or trade certification.
- 10+ years of relevant electrical or service operations experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading a technical service team.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including scheduling, resource allocation, and budget tracking.
- Proven knowledge of VFD technology, topology, and differentiators, including Medium Voltage familiarity.
- Energetic, hands-on, self-sufficient, with a positive, can-do attitude.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
Physical Requirements
- Walking, occasional lifting to 35 lbs.
- Frequent near vision use for reading and computer work.
- Finger agility for keyboarding.
- Periods of sitting, standing and field work.
- May require work outside of normal hours to meet business needs.
Working Conditions & Hazards
- Shop and field environments; travel between sites as required.
- PPE including (but not limited to) hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe boots required when in operational areas.
- Safety rules and regulatory compliance (ie. OSHA / Client / Company requirements) strictly enforced.
