The Occupational Therapist screens, evaluates, treats, and documents occupational therapy services for clients (students) with a variety of sensory, fine motor, learning, and emotional challenges ages 5-21. Provides classroom based instruction to support curriculum. Delivers service in accordance with the IEP in a variety of settings including therapeutic settings, classrooms, vocational settings, and in the community.
Salary: $66,880
Education and Experience/Qualifications: B.S. or Master's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program is required.
Licensure Requirements for Clinical Positions:
- Credential(s) Required: National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy
- CT State License for Occupational Therapy

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates knowledge of occupational therapy practice frameworks and state eligibility guidelines. Develops treatment plan in accordance with these guidelines and collaborates with team members to develop an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP).
- Conducts initial screening and assessment of students, prepares written documentation of the evaluation findings, develops attainable, occupational based treatment plans, and identifies and provides therapeutic interventions appropriate to specific areas of concerns.
- Implements occupational therapy services based on student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP) goals and objectives in accordance with the IEP service delivery plan. Provides individual, group, and classroom based occupational therapy services, monitors progress through clinical notes, clinical summaries, IEP evaluations, and ongoing assessment.
- Demonstrates competence in use of assistive technology.
- Demonstrates knowledge of trauma informed relational approaches and models and incorporates these models into service delivery.
- Identifies potential risk factors and taking measures to reduce those risks in the milieu through reinforcement of positive and safe behaviors, trauma-informed and relationally-based therapeutic interventions, and reporting of suspected child abuse/neglect, according to agency policies and procedures.
- Trains and participates in emergency safety interventions authorized and approved by the agency, when a student presents with an imminent safety concern.
- Works as a member of a transdisciplinary team by communicating effectively and positively with students, staff, families, and internal and external service providers, collaborating and consulting with educational staff, and regularly attending team meetings and classroom consultations.
- Demonstrates clear, concise, professional writing and oral reporting skills.
- Participates in meetings (e.g., classroom consultation, team, PPT) as a member of the transdisciplinary team and collaborates with other school personnel regarding occupational therapy resources designed to meet student needs in areas such as sensory diets, activities of daily living, handwriting, vocational skills, motor skills, etc.
- Demonstrates effective time management skills and flexibility to handle caseloads, adjust to scheduling changes.
- Develops and provides training to colleagues and educational staff regarding issues related to occupational therapy supports for students.
- Adheres to all agency and department policies and procedures (e.g., confidentiality, abuse reporting standards, safety & infection control) and displays excellent work habits (e.g., provides excellent service, attendance and promptness at work and meetings, timeliness in work completion, efficient management of work).
- Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
