WFP's current five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2023-2028 is designed to fully support Egypt's Vision 2030 and ensure food and nutrition security for all Egyptians and non-Egyptians.
The CSP focuses on three interrelated thematic areas: 1. Support the crisis-affected populations through food assistance and resilience building. 2. Improve the resilience of vulnerable Egyptian populations especially in Haya Kareema villages. 3. Provide capacity strengthening to the Government and support South-South cooperation between Egypt and neighboring countries. Under this framework, the Emergency and Crisis Response Unit provides assistance to refugees, asylum seekers, and crisis-affected populations, as well as their host communities, through food and cash-based transfers, resilience building and nutrition support, while promoting accountability to affected populations and supporting protection principles.
Job Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer (Emergency and Crisis Response) and overall guidance of the Head of Unit, the Business Support Assistant (Emergency and Crisis Response) will provide administrative and operational support to ensure the timely and effective implementation of WFP's emergency and crisis response activities.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities (not all-inclusive): 1. Gather information with clear direction to support the drafting of documents and preparing reports by other staff. 2. Respond to queries and escalate where appropriate, in order to provide a timely and accurate service to clients. 3. Support processing and managing routine administrative and financial tasks in various functional areas, to contribute to the effective and timely management of resources. 4. Provide revision and proof-reading services for standard documents, to contribute to the development of accurate documentation. 5. Take responsibility for the maintenance of set standard systems and files, to ensure information is accurate and readily available for the function. 6. Identify simple discrepancies in statistics and data, such as missing information, and report to senior staff in order to support clients to deliver their work. 7. Take responsibility for data integrity to facilitate availability of accurate information in corporate systems. 8. Provide guidance on routine business support methods and practices to junior colleagues to ensure services are delivered consistently and to the required standards. 9. Work with a variety of individuals, taking on feedback where appropriate to assist in business support delivery for staff. 10. Perform other duties as required.
Additional Responsibilities (Specific to Crisis Response): Provide administrative and operational support to ensure effective delivery of food and cash-based assistance under the Crisis Response portfolio. Assist in registration, verification, and distribution activities, ensuring accurate data collection and respectful interaction with beneficiaries. Handle beneficiary feedback and complaints with discretion, escalating sensitive cases when needed. Maintain confidentiality and comply with data protection standards. Liaise with cooperating partners, community leaders, and local authorities to ensure smooth field operations.
Core competencies expected for the job:
Qualifications & Experience: Education: Bachelor degree or equivalent degree in Business Administration, social sciences or any related functional area. Experience: At least four years of progressively responsible administrative or programme support experience, preferably within the humanitarian or development sector. Knowledge & Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., WINGS/SAP). Good understanding of general administrative processes and work routines. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively under pressure and with multicultural teams. Tact, courtesy, and discretion when dealing with stakeholders. Experience working with vulnerable populations is an asset. Knowledge of UN/NGO administrative procedures is an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in both written and spoken Arabic, with a good command of English in both verbal and written communication
