Biomedical Engineer

The incumbent supports the medical center mission and the Biomedical Engineering Service goals while operating in accordance with medical center policies, Biomedical Engineering policies, and standards of professional service and is a professional consultant and advisor on healthcare technology matters to VAMC unit managers and front line staff. He/she consults and provides guidance to technical staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Participating in technology assessment of medical equipment systems
  • Working collaboratively with the Contracting staff to procure medical equipment
  • Coordinating implementation of medical technology
  • Assisting with medical device recalls and hazard alerts
  • Consulting on medical center construction projects
  • Supporting an equipment management program
  • Participating in medical technology management and equipment procurement processes
  • Analyzing maintenance strategies
  • Work Schedule: Full time. Monday - Friday 07:30am - 04:00pm.

Requirements include:

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Subject to background/security investigation
  • Must pass pre-employment physical examination
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP)
  • Must serve a 1 or 2-year trial period

Qualifications include:

  • Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, English Language Proficiency, Education and/or Experience
  • Grade Determinations: Biomedical Engineer, GS-07 (Entry Level), GS-09 (Developmental Level 1), GS-11 (Developmental Level 2), GS-12 (Full Performance Level)

Physical Requirements: considerable and strenuous physical exertion, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas.

Education: A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.

Additional Information: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
