Engineering Support Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Equipment Engineering Support Technician to support Vacuum process equipment; Ion Beam Etch (IBE) and Ion Beam Deposition (IBD) in a high-volume wafer manufacturing environment. This role is critical to ensuring equipment reliability, process capability, and operational efficiency within a Class 100 cleanroom.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the primary technical owner for IBE/IBD tools, supporting both Equipment Engineering and Maintenance teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Process Engineering, Maintenance, and vendors to drive equipment performance improvements.
  • Define, monitor, and enhance: Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures, SPC parameters and tool health metrics, Spare parts inventory and BOM.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment-related wafer scrap.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and technical support during tool escalations.
  • Conduct tool health audits and communicate findings regularly.
  • Train and certify maintenance technicians in advanced troubleshooting and best practices.
  • Support and lead Continuous Improvement Projects (CIPs) focused on reliability, cost reduction, and uptime.
  • Occasionally assist maintenance during manpower shortages and flex hours to support off-shift operations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a technical program (Electronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electro-mechanical preferred)
  • Strong hands-on experience in: IBE/IBD systems and vacuum technology, RF tuning and leak testing, SPC and equipment performance metrics, Endpoint detection tools (e.g., Hiden SEM, JA Wollam Ellipsometer, Mass Spectrometry), Brooks wafer handlers (MAG7, VTR5, Aligners, VCE6)
  • Proficient in reading schematics, machine diagrams, and using diagnostic tools (DVM meters, oscilloscopes)
  • Skilled in computer hardware/software troubleshooting to component level
  • Familiarity with PLC and control systems
  • Excellent mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills (AC, DC, RF)
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Self-motivated, team-oriented, and capable of working with minimal supervision

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing, especially magnetic recording head wafer processing
  • Knowledge of Ion Beam Etching and Deposition principles
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to lead audits and implement procedural improvements
