CMP Engineer/Process Integration Technologist

The job opening is for a full-time Research Staff Member in the Western Digital Corporation emerging device fabrication group.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build nanoscale devices for a range of exploratory projects such as non-volatile memories, novel magnetic biosensor applications, AI memory/compute architectures, superconducting qubits, superconducting electronics, etc.
  • We are looking for a scientist/engineer with a strong background in chemical mechanical polishing and nanoscale device processing. The candidate we hire will own the CMP sector in our research cleanroom, where he/she will be responsible for developing new polishing recipes for a wide array of devices, ranging from emerging memories, to qubits, to advanced biological sensors.
  • In addition, in time he/she will help integrate these CMP techniques into a variety of our process flows.
  • The device fabrication is performed in a state-of-the art research cleanroom on our San Jose headquarters campus. You will be joining a fabrication team of 20+ engineers and technicians with nearly 500 years of combined nanofabrication experience.

Qualifications

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of a Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or closely related field with 5+ years of professional experience or a Ph.D. with 2+ years is required.

PREFERRED:

  • Extensive background in CMP.
  • Hands-on experience with a range of nanofabrication process equipment including AFM.
  • Demonstrated ability to self-direct a research project.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Experience in device integration (CAD/mask layout/designing process flows/running process lots)

If your position is non-exempt, you are eligible for overtime pay pursuant to company policy and applicable laws. You may also be eligible for shift differential pay, depending on the shift to which you are assigned.

You will be eligible to be considered for bonuses under either Western Digital's Short Term Incentive Plan ("STI Plan") or the Sales Incentive Plan ("SIP") which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance, depending on your role and your performance.
