Principal Engineer In Post Quantum Cryptography R&D

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer in Post Quantum Cryptography R&D, you are responsible for ensuring the continued security posture of Wells Fargo from developing threats, such as quantum computing. You participate in leading research, analysis, design, testing, and implementation of next-generation network security technologies.

You have a leading role in the development of code, software tools, and third-party products that will provide the organization with cryptographic technology, as well as Quantum Random Number Generation (QRNG) and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD). This dynamic role provides an opportunity to work in a variety of next-generation security related technologies, including, but not limited to, quantum networking, post quantum cryptography, digital identity, blockchain, risk modeling, etc. Ideal candidate would be able to combine a creative spirit for designing new technologies and security architectures with a strong quantitative background to take the idea through the development pipeline, to building and implementing these solutions in a lab environment.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Act as an advisor to leadership to develop or influence applications, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
  • Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
  • Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organization’s tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
  • Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
  • Strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership
  • Develop new systems and provide technical support to other team members or partners, advising them how to implement more secure encryption and on cutting edge cryptic methods and their application within such encrypted systems.
  • Work with post quantum cryptography, public key infrastructure & architecture, communications protocols, network architecture, specialty software development, application architecture, etc.
  • Work with Quantum Security/Post-Quantum Cryptograph – QKD, quantum-resistant algorithms, QRNG, fraud detection, advanced authentication models and systems, data visualizations.
  • Work with Blockchain/DLT – constructs & use cases.

Required Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prefer doctoral/post-doctoral degree in a STEM field - preference for cryptography, mathematics – or bachelor’s degree in the same fields + 8 to 10 years’ experience.
  • Extensive experience in public key cryptography and related protocols (TLS, SSH, IPSec, etc.), as well as AES and other symmetric methods.
  • Knowledge graph technology – graph databases, AI/ML, NLP.
  • Extensive experience with algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience with session authentication and communication protocols.
  • Familiarity with post-quantum cryptographic algorithms.
  • Strong background in math or a math degree.
  • Preference for knowledge in cryptanalysis, decrypting data, breaking down algorithms and ciphers to access information.
  • Up to date knowledge of IT security hardware, software, and solutions.
  • Must have an information technology-related background. This may include familiarity with multiple operating systems, database architecture, and computer systems.
  • Up to date understanding of programming languages, such as C#, C++, .NET, Java, Perl, PHP, Python or Ruby on Rails etc.
  • Practical experience using computer operating systems such as MS Windows, RHEL/Linux/Ubuntu.
  • Knowledge of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies and platforms a plus.

This position offers a hybrid work schedule. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

  • $175,000 - $279,000 - Philadelphia, PA
  • $191,000 - $305,000 - Iselin, NJ

$175,000.00 - $305,000.00 Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
