Lead Database Engineer
The Database Engineering (DBE) - SQL Server Team is seeking a Lead Database Engineer with a focus on automation solutions. Core Infrastructure Services (CIS) is the Center of Excellence for database management within Wells Fargo. This position provides lead level capabilities relative to database engineering for the company. Database Engineering (DBE) sets database strategy by engineering the design, development, and operations of our database software/systems.
Experience using Public Cloud Azure Managed Instance and Azure SQL Database is desired. This position will play a senior level role in streamlining, planning, designing, implementing, and managing the SQL Server database platform via scripting and automation. The ideal candidate will possess cross-functional skills and thrive in an Agile environment.
This position will interface with service delivery teams, application teams, and other DBA teams within CIS to support and deliver automation services. The successful candidate must be comfortable working on multiple dynamic projects simultaneously in an Agile environment, collaborating with database engineers, database architects, project managers, application teams, information security teams, and leadership at all levels of the organization.
In this role, you will:
- Lead complex or critical database management initiatives that typically involve multiple disciplines and business groups, including database architecture, design, integration and data modeling
- Provide the highest technical expertise for the planning, research, design implementation, maintenance, and control of server class databases
- Review and analyze complex database technologies that require in depth evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles or unprecedented factors
- Design and certify next generation database technologies
- Assist in database installations, including troubleshooting and problem resolution
- Recommend improvements to web application processing issues and design
- Consult with multiple client groups to provide strategic solutions, influencing long range internal and enterprise level database architecture and management strategies
- Provide technical leadership and recommendation into the future direction of database technology
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
- Lead highly complex data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning efforts
- Design and implement security solutions including Center for Internet Security benchmarks and auditing
- Develop management policies, procedures, standards, and best practices
- Provide technical consultation and support in the development of automation solutions
- Translate requirements into code for new or existing solutions and projects
- Work closely with existing database development staff to complete tasks
- Work closely with other teams to understand and document requirements
- Ability to troubleshoot and validate data query results
- Ability to work with a team as well as be a self-starter
- Developing original, intricate solutions and simplifying when feasible to improve maintainability
- Participate in system and user acceptance testing tasks as assigned
- Assure quality, security, and compliance requirements are met
- Participate in an on-call rotation if needed
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 5+ years of Database design and administration experience
- 5+ years of MS SQL Server experience
- 3+ years of PowerShell scripting experience

- Experience using Nutanix Database Service (NDB) with SQL Server
- Experience using Cohesity Backup and Recovery with SQL Server
- Experience with SQL Server Encryption technologies including Extensible Key Management (EKM)
- Experience with AI solutions using Tachyon, Google or Microsoft.
- Experience using Service Now for change management
- Experience using JIRA with Agile methodologies for tracking user stories or backlogs
- Experience with Agile Scrum (Daily Standup, Sprint Planning, and Sprint Retrospective meetings) and Kanban
- Knowledge and understanding of engineering release management
- Knowledge and understanding of relational database concepts, querying, requirements gathering, and/or decision support tools
- The capability to write and interpret advanced SQL Queries
- Knowledge and understanding of API integration to pass JSON payloads
- Knowledge and understanding of test-driven solutions development
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Technical working knowledge of layered products, networking concepts and storage system architectures

Pay Range: $119,000.00 - $206,000.00
