Status: Temporary/Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Work Hours: Monday through Saturday - some split shifts up to 40 hours a week. The approximate start date is November 15th, and working through December 24th.

General Statement: The Salvation Army is a branch of the Christian Church, and the ultimate goal of all programs is the spiritual regeneration of all people.

Requirements: To be employed with The Salvation Army, the applicant must provide proper documentation in accordance with the U.S. Department of Justice Immigration and Naturalization Service Form 1-9. If under the age of 18 years, the applicant must present a valid Work Permit, Minor Emancipation documentation, or other relevant documentation for the state within which you will work. The applicant must read, complete, and sign all supplied forms, policies, advisories, and notifications.

Personnel: Employment with The Salvation Army is conditional upon compliance with the following instructions and performance standards. The Kettle Worker position is temporary, seasonal employment requiring employees to work part-time shifts Monday through Saturday. Sunday duty is not permitted unless it is volunteered. Work schedules are determined based on the most active customer traffic hours of each site. Therefore, Kettle Workers are not guaranteed full-time or a regular schedule or hours. The Kettle Worker is to call his/her Kettle Coordinator as early as possible prior to your shift if you cannot be on the job so that a substitute can fill in. The Kettle Worker is subject to the site Store Manager's direction, who will determine the specific kettle stand placement and may discharge the Kettle Worker for exhibiting rude, reckless, threatening, or obnoxious behavior on the site premises. Overtime is not permitted, do not work more than 40 hours per week. Report work hours to the Kettle Coordinator each day. If he/she has provided a timesheet, fill it out and give it to your Kettle Coordinator at specified intervals. Your time begins when you start work at the kettle site and ends when you turn in your kettle at the end of your shift.

Breaks: Employees are paid during scheduled 'coffee breaks*. The employee is not paid during lunch breaks. Do not take lunch breaks between noon - 1:00 p.m. All breaks must be taken only at the times specified by the Kettle Coordinator. Exceptions will be made for brief, infrequent restroom breaks. If the employee is terminated, or does self-terminate before the end of a week, the final paycheck will be issued within the regular payroll cycle (which may be a week to ten days). All paychecks are issued only from Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters in Seattle, WA.

Kettle duty requires that the employee must stand up out of doors at the kettle in cold and sometimes windy, snowy, or rainy conditions (special sitting accommodations will be permitted for individuals with state medically certified physical disabilities).

Customer Relations: Keep a neat & clean appearance while wearing appropriate clothing for weather conditions. Remain alert and attentive to customer activity. Remember to smile and be courteous. Congenially acknowledge every contribution. Do not wear sunglasses, facemasks, or other obscuring items. Do not continuously ring the bell, especially if in a mall or enclosed area, to avoid creating excessively annoying and irritating noise.

Prohibitions: Eating food is not permitted while on duty at the Kettle. Drinking water, coffee, or other beverages is permitted while on duty. Smoking or chewing tobacco products is prohibited while on Kettle duty for The Salvation Army. Being under the influence of, or drinking, inhaling, or otherwise ingesting any alcoholic or psychoactive substances while on Kettle duty for The Salvation Army.
