Bioinformatics Engineer

Support the curation of biomedical data resources related to several National Institutes of Health (NIH) cancer research programs. Contribute to the curation and distribution of clinical, genomic, imaging and other data and research resources from funded grants. Curate, distribute, and publicize highly dimensional biomedical datasets and other research resources such as software tools, bench tools, and publications coming from multiple NIH supported programs, working and collaborating closely with a team of Sage scientists and engineers. Lead the development and documentation of metadata standards for sharing research resources including datasets, publications, software tools, etc. under the Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability (FAIR) guiding principles. Develop, implement or extend data models/schemas in coordination with project leads and stakeholders. Develop new processes for maintaining and growing data models to meet the strategic needs of the research community. Lead efforts to streamline curation processes and implement new methods using scripting. Manage access to sensitive datasets in collaboration with the Sage data governance team. Document data ingestion processes and curation SOPs. Write data release notes. Produce data reports. The position may include additional duties that utilize the required skills.

Requires a Master of Science degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or related field, and at least six months of experience as a Data Scientist, Data Management Specialist, Graduate Student Researcher, or a related position, including experience in:

• Analyzing, developing and maintaining biomedical databases and running database queries utilizing custom SQL-based tables in a biomedical setting, as well as designing and implementing database schema, stored procedures, triggers and views in RDBMS and biomedical data repositories;
• Performing data manipulation and migration, and analyzing and managing data in large biomedical databases for medical research, including cancer research;
• Extracting and analyzing large volumes of complex data through data mining, machine learning, and information retrieval techniques with tools including Python, Nextflow, and Bash; and
• Completion of graduate level coursework in Dynamic Models in Biology, Data Structures & Algorithms for Computational Biology, Analysis Next-Generation Sequencing Data, Functional Interpretation of High-Throughput Data, Quantitative Genomics & Genetics, and related.

Telecommuting permitted up to 100% from any location within the U.S. Hours & Location: 40 hrs/wk, Sage Bionetworks, 2901 3rd Ave., Suite 330, Seattle, WA 98121 Rate of Pay & Benefits: $101,700 ~ $124,540/Year, Benefits include Med+dental+vis+life, LTD & AD&D insurance for employee+family.
