Sr Staff Software Engineer- Fullstack NodeJS & Typescript (GLP Team), Bangalore
Warner Bros. Discovery, a premier global media and entertainment company, offers audiences the world's most differentiated and complete portfolio of content, brands and franchises across television, film, streaming, and gaming. The new company combines Warner Media's premium entertainment, sports, and news assets with Discovery's leading non-fiction and international entertainment and sports businesses.
The Global Localization Platform team is responsible for an automated string management platform that transforms how we handle user-facing text across all our products, as well as the tools and tooling components used to manage localizations through self-service within our internal suite of tools called Studio. This platform significantly boosts the productivity of Copywriters and Translation Operations, while improving the workflow for development teams that integrate language strings. In short, our team's work underpins the localization efforts that make Warner Bros. Discovery's streaming products truly global.
We are hiring a Sr Staff Software Engineer to join the Global Localization Platform team in Bangalore, India.
- You will play a critical role in shaping the architecture, design, and implementation of our localization platform services.
- You bring deep expertise in building scalable, distributed systems and are comfortable leading the development of major functional changes, whether extending complex systems or creating entirely new ones. Your decisions balance long-term platform health with near-term business goals.
- You have developed deep subject matter expertise in one or more production systems and have demonstrated a consistent pattern of shipping high-impact, reliable features.
- You take on ambiguous and complex challenges and create elegant, robust solutions using sound engineering practices. Your architectural contributions set the standard for performance, availability, and maintainability across multiple services.
- You are a collaborative force multiplier, actively raising the bar for your team and others through mentorship, feedback, and leadership in design and code reviews.
- Your clear, concise communication enables productive alignment across engineering, product, and operations teams. You bring others along with you — not just by sharing knowledge, but by setting an example through your documentation, technical designs, and ownership mindset.
- You help define priorities, drive strategic initiatives, and contribute to creating a high-performing, inclusive, and supportive engineering culture.
- As a mentor, you provide guidance and support for engineers at all levels, including Senior Engineers and partner with engineering leadership to shape the technical growth of the team.
- Design and build complex, high-performance backend and frontend systems that power global localization and translation workflows across multiple WBD streaming products including HBO Max, Discovery+, CNN, and more.
- Provide technical leadership and architectural direction for key services and components in the Global Localization platform, defining patterns for microservices, API design, eventing, and deployment strategies.
- Act as a subject matter expert on cloud-native systems, distributed architectures, and localization infrastructure; guide the team on when to build new solutions vs. extend existing ones.
- Lead technical initiatives that span across teams and systems; collaborate with engineering managers, product managers, and architects to align platform strategy with business goals.
- Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows to ensure fast, reliable delivery across environments.
- Implement and evolve comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability strategies using Prometheus, CloudWatch, Kibana, and similar tools.
- Write and review clean, maintainable, and efficient code across backend (Java, Node.js) and frontend (React, TypeScript) systems; drive engineering excellence through code quality, performance, and scalability.
- Serve as a mentor and technical coach for senior and mid-level engineers, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues by analyzing logs, metrics, stack traces, and system behavior; lead root cause investigations and systemic improvements.
- Contribute to long-term platform evolution through modernization efforts including modularization, internationalization tooling, and decoupling of legacy systems.
- Promote engineering best practices around testing (unit, integration, E2E), documentation, architectural decision records, and peer reviews.
What to Bring:
- 11-15 years of hands-on experience in software development, including leading architecture and design for distributed systems in production environments.
- Deep proficiency in backend technologies (Node.js, Python, Java) and frontend frameworks (React, TypeScript); ability to operate across the full stack when needed.
- Strong experience with AWS services including Serverless, Lambda, DynamoDB, S3, Step Functions, CloudWatch, API Gateway, and EventBridge.
- Expertise in building and deploying microservices using Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines; infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform or CloudFormation is a strong plus.
- Practical experience with datastores such as RDS/PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and Elasticsearch and vectorization for fulltext search.
- Proven success operating production systems with a "you build it, you run it" mindset; strong skills in logging, alerting, and monitoring strategies.
- Experience working in or building event-driven architectures and familiarity with messaging systems (Kafka/MKS) and low-latency communication protocols (gRPC).
- Deep understanding of API lifecycle management, versioning, and service governance across large distributed environments.
- Prior experience working with localization workflows, ICU standard, TMS integration, and content internationalization is a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers at various levels, influence architectural direction, and contribute to cross-team initiatives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document and present technical solutions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Passion for quality, scalability, and operational excellence. Track record of improving systems through proactive refactoring, automation, and simplification.
