Staff Software Engineer, Container Platforms

Building the right technology foundation for Infrastructure & Platforms is vital to success at the scale of Walmart. Our team builds and maintains the foundational technologies that support the tech organization. Included in this are data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. All of these products and services are supported by scalable and powerful infrastructure, ensuring a secure and seamless employee and customer experience across stores, digital channels, and distribution centers.

As a Staff Software Engineer, Container Platforms at Walmart, you'll help shape and scale one of the world's largest Kubernetes platforms across public, private, and edge environments. You'll leverage your deep technical expertise to drive innovation, improve platform reliability, and empower millions of Walmart associates and customers.

What you'll do:

  • Design, build, and scale Walmart's multi-cluster Kubernetes deployment product (MCP).
  • Develop next-gen MCP servers for YAML configuration automation using LLMs to streamline and simplify platform management.
  • Create innovative solutions to high-scale, high-performance infrastructure challenges.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and provide solutions for critical production issues.
  • Contribute to platform architecture, design, and technical strategy.
  • Mentor engineers and champion engineering best practices across the team.

What you'll bring:

  • Strong expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native technologies.
  • Proficiency in Go (Golang), with familiarity in Java or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD or GitOps systems and cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or OpenStack).
  • Ability to simplify complex systems, write maintainable code, and regularly reduce technical debt.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentorship, technical guidance, and cross-functional collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • We value candidates with a background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
