Software Engineer III

About Team: Our team works closely with our US stores and eCommerce business to better serve customers by empowering team members, stores, and merchants with technological innovation. From groceries and entertainment to sporting goods and crafts, Walmart U.S. offers an extensive selection that our customers value, whether they shop online at Walmart.com, through one of our mobile apps, or in-store. Focus areas include customers, stores and employees, in-store service, merchant tools, merchant data science, and search and personalization.

What you’ll do: Provide deep technical expertise and thought leadership that helps accelerate adoption of the absolute best engineering practices, while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends, and practices. Lead and participate in medium to large-scale projects by reviewing project requirements, translating requirements into technical solutions, gathering requested information, writing, and developing code, and conducting unit testing. Communicating status and issues to team members and stakeholders. You’re a technologist who solves problems in creative ways. You have an eye for detail and can articulate the specifics of quality design. You are curious and unintimidated working on projects spanning across the full stack. You have previous experience in Marketplace or Payments & Financial Services and understand how to build products that fit. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills. You can strong focus on end-user impact when you build software.

What you’ll bring: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 2 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to real-world, production grade agentic systems.
  • Ability to develop experimental and analytic plans for data modeling processes, use of strong baselines, ability to accurately determine cause and effect relations
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional level of organization
  • Proven ability to achieve results in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
  • Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies and the full model lifecycle, typically ranging from data pipelines, data extraction, model training, model serving, labeling tools, ML-ops, ad-hoc tooling and all points in between.
  • Exposure to real-world, production grade Backend Technologies - Java, Spring, Springboot, REST, Distributed Systems, modern unit testing frameworks. Experience building Microservices. Experience working on relational and NoSQL databases, Well versed in both private and public cloud technologies. Deep understanding of architecture and data-driven development. A strong sense of ownership Experience building and maintaining a production application. An ability to balance a sense of urgency with shipping high quality and pragmatic solutions. Experience working with large codebase on a cross functional team Experience in building large scale systems. Experience tech leading projects and mentoring more junior engineers.
