Distinguished Architect

We are seeking a visionary Distinguished Architect to lead the technical strategy across a complex and high-impact domain that includes Enterprise Inventory, Order Management Systems, Event-Driven Fulfillment, Outbound (O3) and Inbound (IO2) Order Optimization, GeoDemand, Placements, and Smart Forecasting. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and hands-on technologist, capable of making the complex simple, and inspiring teams to build resilient, future-ready solutions.

About Team: Focusing on customer, associate, and business needs, this team works with Walmart International, which includes more than 5,200 retail units, operating in 23 countries such as Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Mexico, and South Africa to name a few.

What You'll Do

  • Delivering on ambitious business demands while ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Guiding the migration from legacy systems to next-gen platforms, aligning with Global Tech standards.
  • Providing deep technical leadership, mentoring senior engineers and architects, and fostering a culture of excellence.
  • Understanding the end-to-end business and data flows, enabling informed decision-making and simplification of complex systems.
  • Partnering across peer domains to shape and execute a cohesive technical strategy that drives innovation and operational efficiency.

What You'll Bring

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, with extensive experience architecting scalable and mission critical solutions.
  • Experience influencing and aligning with senior engineering and business leaders spanning domain boundaries.
  • Ability to navigate complex technical landscape while maintaining clarity and decisiveness.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in: Java required; Mainframe experience a plus. Kafka, message queues, event-driven architecture Cloud platforms: Azure or GCP Cosmos DB (or similar) and Cassandra CI/CD, observability, containerization (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes) Data engineering background, including ETL Spark, and workflow tools such as Airflow
  • Deep understanding of system design, API governance, and security.
  • Ability to influence technical vision, platform standards, and engineering best practices.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering or related area. Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
