We're looking for a high-performing Chapter Lead Infrastructure Engineering to establish, grow and lead a dynamic technical chapter within our Digital Group. This is an opportunity to combine deep technical expertise, people leadership and strategic influence - while contributing to digital outcomes that make a difference for NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

The opportunity

As our Chapter Lead Infrastructure Engineering, you will build and lead a thriving Chapter of System Engineers, Senior System Engineers and Principal Engineers. You'll champion agile ways of working, establish technical standards, and grow capability across your team - ensuring they are deployed effectively into delivery squads and equipped to consistently deliver high-quality value.

This role blends servant leadership, technical authority, and strategic thinking. With a span of 20 direct reports, you'll attract great talent, foster continuous learning, and partner with external suppliers to scale capability effectively.

You'll report to the Head of Digital Operations and play a key role in strengthening NZTA's core digital foundations.

About you

You are an experienced technical leader who thrives in fast paced, agile environments. You bring:

• 5+ years of experience leading technical teams or chapters, ideally in large or complex organisations
• Strong understanding of agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, Lean) and experience working in an Agile matrix model
• Deep technical understanding across infrastructure engineering disciplines
• Proven ability to inspire, mentor and grow engineering talent
• Excellent communication, relationship building and stakeholder skills
• Experience partnering strategically with external suppliers
• A strong alignment to servant leadership values - removing barriers and empowering others
• The ability to balance technical excellence with business value
• A willingness to deepen your knowledge of Te Ao Māori, tikanga, Te Reo Māori, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi within the public service context
