Job Summary

Under close supervision, the apprentice is responsible for successfully completing the training and qualification program to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to be a useful employee. In addition, the apprentice will be assigned progressively more demanding tasks as the level of knowledge and experience increases.

Skilled work requires that the individual be qualified in the related field or be closely supervised by a Qualified Journeyman or above.

The Assistant Maintenance Serviceman performs any maintenance repair work assigned in all work areas involving Maintenance activities in accordance with the Station Operating License, Technical Specifications, Operating Procedures, QA/QC Procedures, and Maintenance Department procedures; performs such Duties and responsibilities as:

  • Performing work independently in Journeyman skill areas, when qualified in accordance with Davis-Besse Training Program for Maintenance Serviceman.
  • Performing work in Journeymen skill areas, under the direct supervision of a qualified individual, when the individual has not yet completed qualifications;
  • Assisting a qualified individual in performing maintenance in Serviceman skill areas;
  • Assisting, as assigned, in response to any Station Emergency;
  • Assisting in the development, correction, and validation of Station Procedures and Tests;
  • Interpreting work orders, drawings, sketches, blueprints, etc.;
  • Properly preparing records used in connection with the work;
  • Reporting abnormal conditions observed, such as abnormal operating conditions, safety conditions, and security violations;
  • Using hand tools to prepare, fabricate, and otherwise repair mechanical components structural components
  • Ensuring that the work area and equipment are in good order and cleaned up after completion of work;
  • Following safe work practices and adhering to all Station and Company procedures for Industrial and Radiation Safety;
  • Maintaining proficiency as a Assistant Maintenance Serviceman by meeting the established requalifications and continuing training requirements;
  • Completing the Nuclear Maintenance Serviceman (Journeyman) Qualification within four years of initial hire to Assistant Maintenance Serviceman;
  • Complying with the applicable Station Procedures in the performance of the Duties; and
  • Performing other responsibilities, as assigned.

1. Must have at least one year of experience in the Maintenance Utilityman position or the equivalent; and must have successfully completed the assigned Qualification cards and training for that position;

2. Must be able to understand and carry out instructions;

3. Must be capable of achieving and maintaining the qualifications necessary to perform their assigned duties. This includes satisfactory completion of all assigned courses, Qualification cards and Requalification Cards;

4. Must have a working knowledge of:

  • Station procedures, instruction and special standing, and administrative policies;
  • The rules and safety practices of the Company applicable to the work;
  • The effective, safe use and care of the tools, equipment and materials common to the work being performed;
  • The location and layout of equipment in the Station, site and grounds;

5. Must have a cooperative temperament, be able to work cooperatively with employees with whom the work must be coordinated to complete work assignments within prescribed time limits.

6. Must successfully complete or have successfully completed EEI MASS testing.
