Traffic Engineer Position

Our Traffic Department works on high-profile and complex projects for state and local departments of transportation throughout North America with a concentration on the eastern US. Our traffic work is challenging, interesting, and in many cases, on the leading edge of traffic engineering applications in the industry. Our mid-level traffic engineers gain valuable experience performing a wide variety of analysis, modeling, design, and planning for multimodal transportation projects. Assignments can include: traffic safety/operations studies; development or application of Synchro, SimTraffic, TransModeler, VISSIM, and VISUM models; and design of traffic control devices (traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting); work zone traffic control; ITS and CAV projects. Project assignments can range from small-scale intersection improvements to complex interchange and corridor projects, as well as innovative multimodal transportation plans. Position may include working at client site(s) and infrequent travel.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program required, MSCE or equivalent advanced degree preferred
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the Commonwealth of Virginia or ability to obtain license within 6 months.
  • Certified PTOE preferred
  • 11-15 years of progressive experience in traffic and/or ITS engineering
  • Experience using traffic guidelines, such as AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual and Highway Safety Manual
  • Experience working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Experience with any of the following:
    • HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic
    • TransModeler, VISSIM, and/or VISUM
    • Design of traffic control devices (traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, lighting) and work zone traffic control
    • ITS and CAV projects
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Exceptional communication, technical writing and organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work independently and cooperatively with others
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time accordingly.
