Summary Position

Position is assigned to the NAF Fitness/Sports/Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) at Naval Station Norfolk in Norfolk, VA. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of support duties to operate fitness, sports, or aquatic facilities as needed. This position is located at Fitness and Sports Q80, Naval Station Norfolk. Responsibilities include:

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Fitness Director to plan, arrange, and execute activities for military, civilians, and family members in the facilities assigned.
  • Explain and assist patrons in the use of facilities, ensuring safe and proper handling of facilities and sports equipment.
  • Assure officials for sporting events are scheduled and available on time.
  • Maintain cleanliness of facilities prior to, during, and after use.
  • Assist in the opening and closing of facilities ensuring building security before closing at the end of the day.
  • Review scheduled events to ensure facilities are prepared prior to scheduled start times.
  • Check ID cards to ensure that only authorized patrons are utilizing facilities assigned.
  • Answer telephone and personal questions providing excellent customer service skills.
  • Circulate among the patrons to assist in basic use of equipment and to maintain good order and discipline at all times.
  • Clean and maintain facilities performing janitorial services to ensure interior spaces are clean at all times.
  • Sweeping, mopping, dusting, and cleaning workout rooms, mirrors, bathrooms, and locker areas as necessary.
  • Account for individual and unit issue of sports equipment by proper issue and turn-in procedures.
  • Maintain and update reservation schedules for facilities and sports fields to prevent schedule conflicts.
  • Prepare and update records/tables on ongoing intramural sports activities.
  • Prepare, distribute, and post publicity announcements of sports events and programs.
  • Inventory sports equipment and follow-ups on discrepancies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate must possess:

  • A minimum one year of work experience which involved dealing with the general public and general knowledge of recreational fitness, sports, or aquatic programs.
  • Skill in operation of equipment to line fields or set up for intramural sporting events.
  • Must be a mature individual who can exercise control over a large group of people to ensure good order and discipline as necessary.
  • Must be skilled in customer service.

Education:

This position does not have a positive education requirement.

Additional Information:

Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Executive Order 12564 requires a Federal workplace free of illegal drugs.
