CACI is currently looking for a motivated, career and customer-oriented Senior-level Hardware Engineering Lead / SME with Agile methodology experience to join our Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Land Border Integration (LBI) Integrated Traveler Initiative (ITI2.1) team in Northern Virginia! Join this passionate team of industry-leading individuals supporting the best practices in Agile Software Development and hardware integration for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a member of the ITI2.1 Team, you will support the men and women charged with safeguarding the American people and enhancing the Nation's safety, security, and prosperity. CBP Officers and Border Patrol agents are on the front lines, every day, protecting our national security by combining customs, immigration, border security, and agricultural protection into one coordinated and supportive activity.

What You'll Get To Do

As the Hardware Engineering Manager working for the CBP ITI2.1 program, you will have a fast moving, challenging, and highly rewarding position while designing, architecting, and building systems and components that assist CBP in protecting the public from dangerous people and materials while facilitating legitimate trade and travel. The candidate will have experience in the electronic and / or mechanical engineering and assembly process. The candidate will be required to work in an environment where teamwork and individual collaboration is essential to success.

Tasks include:

• Analyze and decompose operational, mounting, cabling, power, and environmental requirements
• Research, identify, design, develop, test, and maintain hardware components
• Construct modular electronic systems utilizing Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware and enclosures to protect systems from environmental hazards
• Configure systems using COTS and proprietary software
• Oversee other hardware engineers, providing guidance on assembly steps and industry best practices
• Track and document assembly status
• Perform testing and troubleshooting
• Identify hardware component, process, and assembly improvements
• Develop assembly instructions, interpret engineering blueprints and technical terms
• Discern quality of parts and materials
• Contribute to Basis of Estimate (BOE) and Bill of Materials (BOM) buildups
• Identify quality control and testing steps
• Maintain inventory of parts consumed and tools used in the assembly process

You Have

To qualify for this position, you must:

• Be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to pass CBP background investigation, criteria includes, but not limited to: 3-year check for felony convictions, 1-year check for illegal drug use, and 1-year check for misconduct such as theft or fraud
• Have 10+ years of related experience
• Hold a college degree (B.S.) in Electronics Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline. Experience acceptable in lieu of degree.
• Have experience building electronic systems in an enclosure with wires, screws, and electrical components
• Have technical management experience
• Be available to work a hybrid schedule with an on-site requirement in Sterling, VA
• Demonstrate great interpersonal and excellent communication skills

You Are Good At

You should have:

• Basic understanding of computer operating systems and networking
• Experience in working with cable, wire, and termination technologies
• CAT-6 Cable creation and testing
• A fundamental knowledge of electronic theory. Understands basic electrical wiring principles (low voltage only)
• Understanding of simple test equipment including multi-meters and cable testers
• Knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools for use in designing hardware containment and mounting systems
• Understanding of Gen 2 RFID
• Experience with network based cameras, including their configuration and setup
• Creating and interpreting technical documentation
• Using power tools such as drills, power saws, and other tools
• Using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, cutters, etc.
• Machining and manipulating of metal, plastics, and composites
• Installing, configuring, and running operating systems including Windows and Linux
• Assembling high level devices using provided instructions
• Performing quality assurance checks on assembled or repaired devices
• Managing, troubleshooting, and preserving technical equipment
• Problem solving
• Time-management
