Family Services Specialist

We are looking for a dedicated Family Services Specialist to join our team in Newport News, Virginia. In this role, you will provide essential social work services to families, assisting with assessments and addressing their immediate needs, such as safety, housing, and access to resources. This is a long-term contract position ideal for someone passionate about supporting individuals and families in the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to evaluate family needs and establish appropriate service plans.
  • Offer case management support, including maintaining detailed and accurate documentation.
  • Provide guidance to families on accessing resources related to shelter, food, clothing, and safety.
  • Collaborate with community organizations and other professionals to ensure clients receive necessary services.
  • Engage with seniors and adults with disabilities to address their specific needs.
  • Perform follow-ups to monitor progress and update service plans as needed.
  • Utilize customer service and communication skills to build trust and rapport with clients.
  • Operate office equipment such as copiers and scanners, and use word processing software for documentation.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively to manage workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Work independently and contribute as part of a team to achieve departmental goals.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year experience in case management or social work.
  • Strong skills in conducting assessments and maintaining detailed documentation.
  • Excellent customer service abilities, with both oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and other relevant software applications.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available to families.
  • Ability to engage effectively with seniors and adults with disabilities.
  • Strong time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Human Services or Social Work.
