Cyber Network Engineer

We're looking for a skilled Cyber Systems & Network Administrator to help maintain and evolve our cyber range infrastructure. This position supports both day-to-day operations and specialized cybersecurity projects in a dynamic, multi-vendor environment. You'll work with everything from bare-metal to virtualized environments, support internal research and development, professional development events, and serve as a key technical point of contact across teams.

Once cleared, you will support the sponsor's environments with technical research, development, proof of concept/prototyping, risk assessment, and the establishment & execution of mitigation strategies throughout the cyber security operations life cycle. You will enable operations through automation and scripting to gain efficiency in task execution across a wide spectrum of disciplines. You will be given the freedom to use your technical creativity and problem-solving skills to deliver impactful solutions with direct and high impact to our customer's mission.

In this role, you will be supporting a wide range of projects to include research and development (R&D) support to a cybersecurity contract focused on protecting our nation's security. You will get to develop training capabilities on our CACI Cyber Ops Range. Additionally, you will provide functional prototypes meeting novel cyber R&D requirements. You will have the freedom to explore different capabilities and provide solutions through a variety of development and integration efforts based on your ability to research, prototype, test, document, and ultimately implement those solutions.

Responsibilities

Maintain and troubleshoot physical and virtual infrastructure, including Proxmox servers, VMs, LXC containers, Cisco/Netgear switches, firewalls, and wireless APs

Design, update, and maintain network diagrams, asset inventories, and host documentation

Manage system backups and ensure hardware health and availability

Administer VLANs, firewall rules, and segmented networks

Review IDS alerts and evaluate vendor patch notices for applicability and safe implementation

Coordinate with internal stakeholders (corporate IT, program teams, and other groups) on compliance, POAMs, and custom network configurations

Provision and manage VPN access for staff, interns, and visitors

Manage GitLab user accounts and access controls

Deploy new hardware and architect infrastructure for logging, vulnerability management, and training environments

Support onboarding tasks for new hires such as laptop configuration and wireless access

Maintain and update the System Security Plan (SSP) for the cyber range

Create and maintain documentation for all range activity, including technical configuration, events, and IRAD usage

Fulfill other duties related to IT, systems, network, and security administration

Qualifications

Required:

Ability to obtain a TS/SCI with required polygraph clearance

2+ years of related IT engineering work experience

University Degree (BA/BS) in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or other relevant field and/or relevant work experience

Strong analytical, logical, and critical thinking skills with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new languages and development environments.

Ability to work in a dynamic and challenging team environment

Strong oral and written communication skills

Strong working knowledge of IT infrastructure

Familiarity with network design and hardware (Cisco/Netgear switches, firewalls, APs)

Familiarity with Capture the Flag (CTF) challenge structure

Proficiency in virtualization (Proxmox, LXC, KVM)

Strong understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems

Working knowledge of Python or other scripting languages

Experience with LAN Management & Network Practices to include:

  • Network system performance monitoring and analysis
  • Computer, server, and network security troubleshooting
  • Able to quickly learn and apply new technologies, processes, and procedures

Desired:

Strong Linux systems administration experience

Proficiency in virtualization (Proxmox, LXC, KVM)

Familiarity with network design and hardware (Cisco/Netgear switches, firewalls, APs)

Scripting or automation knowledge (Bash, Python, Ansible)

Experience with GitLab and VPN configuration (WireGuard/OpenVPN)

Familiarity with SSPs and cybersecurity compliance frameworks

Active Secret clearance or above
