Chief Maintenance Engineer
As a Chief Maintenance Engineer, you will lead the technical operations and maintenance of assigned buildings, ensuring that all systems run smoothly and efficiently. You will supervise and mentor technical staff, prepare work schedules, and coordinate preventive maintenance to ensure optimal facility performance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee technical operations and maintenance of assigned buildings.
- Supervise, train, and mentor technical staff.
- Prepare work schedules, assign duties, and coordinate preventive maintenance for the facility.
- Develop, implement, and manage building safety and emergency response plans.
- Enforce security protocols, manage subcontractor access, and maintain up-to-date record logs.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, security standards, and government regulations.
- Respond promptly to customer requests and complaints.
- Manage vendor relationships and negotiate contracts for services, supplies, and repairs.
- Coordinate modifications and repairs to building utilities, services, piping, ductwork, fire safety, and security systems.
- Develop and execute energy plans to improve sustainability and reduce costs.
- Plan and oversee testing, shutdowns, and startups of critical building systems.
- Complete and document all building inspections using relevant GSA forms.
- Identify and communicate any dangerous conditions or emergencies.
- Serve as the primary responder to building emergencies during and after normal working hours.
- Schedule all building services activities to ensure minimal disruption.
- Ensure testing, commissioning, and training are conducted for all repairs, alterations, and projects.
Essential Skills:
- Hands-on expertise in chillers, boilers, pumps, and heat exchangers.
- Proficiency in HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems.
- Experience with Life Safety Systems and Utility Services.
- Knowledge of Electrical Power Distribution and Plumbing.
- Mechanical equipment expertise fundamental to building operations.
- Experience in mechanical, building automation systems, and plumbing.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant License (required).
- Journeyman or Master HVAC license preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- At least a High School Diploma.
- A minimum of five (5) years of recent experience in a supervisory role in large commercial high-rise facilities.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Strong organizational and supervisory skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment:
You will be working onsite at the Federal Building in downtown Norfolk, VA, responsible for the technical operations and maintenance of facilities for federal offices and courthouses.

This is a permanent position based out of Norfolk, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $95000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
