Job Summary

The 3rd Class Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of facility systems such as heating, cooling, refrigeration, steam, water, and electrical equipment. The role includes interpreting system readings, performing repairs, maintaining logs, ensuring equipment is in good working condition, and occasionally leading other workers. The position requires a DC 3rd Class Engineer License or higher and the ability to work nights and weekends.

Primary Job Functions

  • Safely and efficiently operate and maintain all assigned plant equipment during assigned watch.
  • Operate and maintain systems providing heat, air-conditioning (cooling, humidifying, dehumidifying, filtering, circulating air), refrigeration, steam, water, or electricity.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment as defined in the contract or Statement of Work.
  • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts to monitor system performance.
  • Adjust system controls to ensure safe, efficient operation and meet service demands.
  • Record operational data in logs.
  • Perform hands-on work to keep engines, machinery, and equipment in good working condition.
  • Lead activities of other workers performing tasks related to system operation and maintenance.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Meet night and weekend work requirements.
  • Maintain skill level consistent with a DC 3rd Class Engineer License or higher.

Education, Experience and Certification

Active DC 3 Engineers License or higher required. High School Diploma or Equivalent education. 1 year of job-related experience. Other technical or trade certifications in related field are highly desired.

Working Conditions

Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions. Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of computer software programs to include Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook desired.
