Job Duties

Serve Virginia's veterans, their dependents and family members by ensuring they receive the benefits, support, quality care, and recognition they have earned through their service and sacrifice. To advocate for and assist veterans and their dependents in the preparation, presentation, and prosecution of all lawful and ethical veterans claim for benefits to which they are entitled. To educate veterans and dependents on the services and benefits offered by Virginia and the federal government. To conduct outreach to promote VDVS and the programs offered.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to veterans' benefits is preferred. Experience with the military and / or military veteran communities. Ability to interpret complex laws and regulations and apply to casework. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Customer service and public speaking skills. Some overnight travel and regular community outreach to include some weekends or holidays is required.

Additional Considerations

A new probationary period will be required for all new Benefits employees who have not completed and currently maintain USDVA Accreditation, regardless of whether the employee has previously completed a state probationary period. REAL ID is required for employment as a part of the federal prerequisites for USDVA Accreditation.
