TRiO SSS Academic Advisor/Student Support Liaison
Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates in transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.
Camp's TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program is a federally funded initiative, designed to support the academic success, retention, and graduation of students who are low-income, first-generation, and individuals with disabilities. The SSS Academic Advisor plays a key role in this mission by offering personalized academic, career and transfer advising, and support services that help students achieve their educational and professional goals. The SSS Academic Advisor facilitates individualized support by conducting needs assessments, developing academic plans and service strategies, connecting students with campus resources, and serving as a liaison between students, faculty, and campus services.
Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide academic, career and transfer advising.
- Assist students with the financial aid and scholarship applications process.
- Coordinate and provide classroom accommodations for students.
- Identify, select, and onboard eligible students into the program.
- Maintain weekly communications with participants.
- Organize and facilitate workshops for student support.
- Plan academic enrichment activities.
- Disseminate information about the TRiO SSS Program to the campus community.
- Collect data for the preparation of the annual performance report and grant renewal application.
- Maintain accurate records and reports of student progress.
- Assist with data management to support program reporting, evaluation, and compliance.
- Serve as the college liaison for EAB Navigate.
Some program services may require occasional evening and weekend hours and overnight travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, human services, or information technology or field related to the purpose and responsibilities of the position.
- Experience working with first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities, in a college setting.
- Minimum of two years' experience in Student Affairs, Academic Advising experience, or Counseling, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures to a variety of processes.
- Proficient knowledge and use of office productivity software.
- Strong interpersonal skills to engage, provide support, and follow up with students.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, along with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and a commitment to providing high-quality service.
- Experience working collaboratively to promote student success.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and use of personal automobile.
- Travel between college locations is required.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel for student trips.
