This position will serve as Project Manager for multiple non-capital construction projects. This includes overseeing the development, design and construction phases of the projects. The position involves understanding of construction and related engineering aspects. This position is intended to provide key technical leadership for construction project management.
Plans and manages non-capital projects from initiation through close-out
Develops scopes of work based on client requests or based on solving building issues.
Develops early schedules for all assigned projects in Microsoft Project, based on given scope and required delivery dates.
Facilitates and monitors permit approval process, ensuring that the required permits for assigned projects are obtained in a timely manner and according to project schedules.
Manages the bid and contract phases and evaluates the bid results.
Directs the construction phase by frequent monitoring of project.
Responsible for project documents including requests for information, submittals, pay applications, compliance with codes and regulatory matters, change directives, or change orders.
Ensures quick close-out of projects including punch list completion, commissioning, training, as-built drawings and O&M Manual review.
Responsible for project safety and quality assurance.
Maintains extensive knowledge of all College/VCCS policies and procedures, adhering to State and local procurement regulations.
Applies professional and technical skills and knowledge to direct design professionals through the planning process.
Ensure that the technical project requirements are met. This includes code compliance, energy efficiency, sustainability, adherence to NOVA Design Guidelines, and other Commonwealth of Virginia requirements.
Extensive technical knowledge of entire project development process.
Knowledge of current codes and environmental regulations.
Knowledge of VUSBC and CPSM.
General computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, Access, Word, Power Point and Microsoft Project.
Ability to work independently with high level of responsibility and accountability.
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects of varied size and complexity.
Strong time management skills essential.
Ability to work productively and communicate verbally and in writing appropriately with a wide variety of personnel and contractors.
Proven management skills and ability to manage day-to-day operations.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
Experience working as a project manager, engineer, architect, or related responsibilities.
Experience with project management.
Experience reading and interpreting construction documents including plans, specifications, and contracts.
Experience working with project budget.
Experience compiling, reviewing, and presenting reports.
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Professional Engineer, Certified Construction Manager or Virginia Construction Contracting Officer (VCCO).
Experience with facilities construction sites preferred.
Experience working in higher education.
Experience with computer aided design.
Experience with Commonwealth of Virginia construction requirements.
Experience with Virginia Community College System construction requirements.
OSHA 30 certification
