Program Support Technician

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Criminal Justice Information Services Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the accuracy of offender information obtained through registrations.
  • Maintaining compliance of sex offenders with the laws that govern the Registry, through the review, research, and analysis of data from various databases and sources in accordance with the laws that govern the Registry pursuant to §9.1-900 through §9.1-918 of the Code of Virginia.
  • Responding to questions, concerns, issues, and tips posed by the sex offenders, law enforcement, and the public by phone and email relative to offender's registration and re-registration requirements set forth in the Code of Virginia.
  • Validating and entering initial registrations.
  • Verifying registrations entered into the Sex Offender Registration File.
  • Entering discrepancies for assigned Sex Offender Regions (SOR) Regions from the updates provided by the SOR staff via email and discrepancy queues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in using a computer and using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze information and make logical decisions based on policies, procedures, and laws; to perform research on questionable data by applying established procedures from training and learn laws regarding registration requirements; to apply general knowledge of computer formatted functions, State, federal codes, and regulation; to exercise independent judgment and apply prescribed policies and procedures; to follow written and verbal instructions, and pay close attention to details; to work independently and as part of a team; and to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
  • Progressively responsible administrative experience in researching and analyzing data from a variety of sources to determine validity and identify missing elements.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either being a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
