Open-Rank, Tenured/Tenure Track Bioengineering Faculty

The George Mason University Department of Bioengineering, within the College of Engineering and Computing, invites applications for a tenure-track or a tenured faculty position beginning Fall 2026. Senior candidates with established records of outstanding research and excellent teaching will be eligible for a tenured associate professor or a professor position. Candidates to this position will be expected to develop an externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, supervise students, participate in all aspects of the department's mission, participate in the university, college and departmental governance, and serve the profession.

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Develop an independent and externally funded research program;
  • Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Supervise students, capstone projects, student internships and practicum;
  • Participate in all aspects of the department's mission; and
  • Serve the profession.

Required qualifications include:

  • A PhD in Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field by the start date of the position;
  • Experience in one or more of the department's four research pillars: biomedical imaging and devices, computational biomedicine, biomaterials and nanomedicine, and neurotechnology and computational neuroscience;
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in Bioengineering related research; and
  • A commitment to high-quality teaching.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience in computational and/or experimental research within the fields of microfluidics, 3D bioprinting, cell and tissue engineering, bioreactor engineering, biomanufacturing, mechanobiology, neuromechanics, sensorimotor integration, neuromodulation, soft robotics, biomedical and rehabilitation robotics, medical imaging, and biosensing;
  • Ability to build collaborations with other departments within the College and across the University; and
  • Teaching experience and a record of peer-reviewed publications.
