McGuffey Reading Services, part of the Sheila C. Johnson Center at the University of Virginia (UVA), seeks applicants for a temporary, part-time position as a reading teacher/supervisor in our Reading Intervention Program. Teachers/supervisors will plan, implement, and/or supervise targeted reading intervention lessons for a small group of students. They will work closely with McGuffey's clinical staff to develop an intensive instructional program to best meet the needs of students. Lessons typically include: systematic teaching of phonemic awareness, phonics/decoding, and spelling to build word recognition; targeted fluency instruction to build reading rate, accuracy, and prosody; comprehension instruction to include both background knowledge/vocabulary and strategy use; and writing instruction, which is woven throughout the lesson.
