Job Description: New River Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body. Duties:
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's degree in human services, social work, human development, or a related field; or master's degree with a concentration in human services, social work, human development, or a related field (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline).
• A minimum of two years of occupational experience in human services or a related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission.
• Demonstrated current knowledge in the field of human services and expertise in best practices.
• Commitment to ensuring the relevance and currency of human services curriculum.
• Ability to communicate effectively in teaching/learning situations both orally and in written form.
• Commitment to and ability to implement teaching strategies that foster student retention and student success.
• Commitment to engaging students through innovative teaching approaches, including use of technology as a teaching and learning tool.
• Willingness to develop and teach online, hybrid, traditional face-to-face, and hyflex courses.
• Willingness to maintain relevance and currency of human services curriculum.
• Commitment to assessing the human services program and its courses for effectiveness.
• Fairness and flexibility in understanding and working with a wide variety of students.
• Demonstrated ability to promote and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with college faculty, administrators, and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with human services agencies and organizations.
• Credentials or willingness to become credentialed to teach in a second discipline, i.e., psychology or education, within three years. ***Finalists will be asked to present a sample teaching lesson***
