Financial Service Specialist

Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for a full time employee as a financial services specialist to work in the Center for Leadership and Ethics. Reporting to the Director, the Financial Specialist will ensure the good stewardship of the Center's annual budget and expenditures; specific responsibilities will include: • Annual budget formulation/submission and execution; • Execution of the budget will include processing of requisition requests, reconciling disbursements, preparation of interdepartmental billing (as required), justification for budget transfers, procurement & contracts, ensuring compliance with state/local regulations, complying with eVA & SWaM regulations, monthly reconciliation. • Preparing/submitting annual audit and reports within specified guidelines; • Develop/execute the budgets for the four to six annual conferences, cadet programs, and faculty training in support of VMI agencies and departments; • Provide primary Travel Support for CLE staff and others as directed; • Serve as primary liaison with Parkhurst in support of CLE Conferences and programs; • Primary liaison with the Procurement Office in support of all procurement needs; • Provide liaison to the Treasurer for CLE staff regarding payroll; • Perform other duties that may be directed in support of the CLE mission. Note: Evening and select weekend work periodically required.

Minimum Qualifications

• College-level coursework or related experience in finance, business management or related fields • Exceptional interpersonal abilities with strong team orientation and communication skills • Should be a self-starter, is flexible, and has a positive, can-do attitude • Advanced/Expert knowledge of Excel/Strong knowledge of Other Microsoft Office Suites • Excellent written and oral communication skills • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, and vendors • Exceptional problem solving skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and changing environment • Ability to communicate both written and orally at multiple levels of management in a complex organization • Ability to collaborate with other departments to achieve positive results • Excellent time management and organizational ability • Ability to multitask and meet constant deadlines

Additional Considerations

• Experience in Federal/State government and/or fund accounting • Knowledge of Federal/State regulations and application to daily operations • Strategic thinking • Great presentation skills • Ability to influence and persuade
