Family Services Specialist III

Hiring Range: $72,060.36 to $132,558.42

Full Time or Part Time: Full Time

Location: Henrico County, Virginia, United States

General Statement of Duties: Provides professional, intensive, specialized continuing case management services involving concentration in the areas of child and adult welfare; performs a broader scope of duties requiring routine utilization of greater professional knowledge and independent application of professional skill; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties:

  • Complete Child Protective Services (CPS) family assessments & investigations and associated duties including:
    • Case documentation in the child welfare database OASIS using COMPASS & eScribers
    • Coordinating & participating in Family Partnership Meetings
    • Participating in court proceedings through filing affidavits, petitions, court reports and providing testimony in civil and criminal proceedings
    • Transferring cases for ongoing services
    • Conducts trauma screenings & CANS assessments
  • Participate in unit, division, agency & community meetings, including the Henrico Multi-Disciplinary Team, related to the work of the Department
  • Provide coverage for child welfare on-call (CPS, preservation, prevention & foster care) approximately 14 nights per 12-month calendar year (when fully staffed)
  • Participate in shelter team operations as designated by the Emergency Operations Center
  • Handle additional work assignments when necessary

This position is required to maintain: considerable knowledge of current social, economic and health concerns; considerable knowledge of the federal Social Security Act and of casework philosophy, methods and practices; considerable knowledge of individual and group behavior and of current literature and trends in the social work field; knowledge of community resources available to meet clients needs; ability to make independent judgments; ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations and to deal effectively with the public; ability to plan and organize work; ability to gather facts and report them accurately and to write reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Four (4) year baccalaureate degree in a relevant human services field in accordance with VA Code ยง 63.2-219; Preferred Experience: Three (3) years of relevant social work experience; OR Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities.

Valid driver's license to perform assigned duties at various locations.

Successful completion of all training requirements established pursuant to the VA 63.2-208. Standards for personnel.

This position may be underfilled as a Family Services Specialist II (Salary $62,605 - $115,164), depending on the successful candidates' skills and experiences as well as the needs of the department at the time of hire.
