Facility Services Associate, Wage

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking an experienced individual to join our team as a part time Facility Services Associate, Night. VMFA is a state-supported, privately endowed educational institution created for the benefit of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Its purpose is to collect, preserve, exhibit, and interpret art, to encourage the study of the arts, and thus to enrich the lives of all. This position reports to the Facility Services Manager and is part of our Facility Services team. Candidates should be hard-working, self-motivated, high energy team players who are prepared to work in a fast paced, physical environment. They should be able to switch gears based on changing priorities and be able to work independently. This is a non-exempt position that does not include benefits. Wage employees are limited to working 1,490 hours per cycle year, or an average of 28 hours per week. Duties include:

Clean an assigned area of the museum. Set up and break down for special events. Cleans supply closets and equipment, weekly, including buffers, vacuums, and other similar equipment. Keep the janitor closet clean and organized. Prepares and maintains housekeeping records and forms.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies. Some knowledge of safety practices in using chemicals and cleaning equipment. Working skills in the operation of power cleaning equipment such as wet vacuums, floor scrubbers, high-speed floor buffers and vacuum cleaners. Ability to perform a variety of cleaning tasks, to lift and move heavy objects, to move furniture, set up and take down events, to give and receive instructions, and to read and write. Ability to work independently. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relations with others. Ability to read and understand instructions. Ability to stand and walk up to 8 hours. Ability to use hands to handle equipment, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Ability to lift or move up to 75 pounds.

Additional Considerations

Prior custodial or housekeeping experience preferred.
