Cloud Engineer I

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) Developmental Services' Office of Information Services and Technology (IS&T) is seeking a Cloud Engineer with expertise in solution support and development within a modern cloud-based ecosystem. The successful candidate will provide Level 2 production support specifically for AWS in-house build cloud applications, addressing the increasing demand within the DBHDS organization. A Level 2 Cloud Engineer is necessary to bridge the gap between Level 1 support and Level 3 development teams, providing advanced technical expertise in AWS cloud services, while enhancing incident response time and reducing downtime, ensuring continuous service availability. This position also provides support with designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based solutions, maintaining uptime, troubleshooting issues, and performing monitoring and optimization.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Leveraging native cloud services to design, develop, and maintain cloud-based solutions.
  • Developing and maintaining APIs tailored for cloud environments (e.g., AWS API Gateway).
  • Implementing cloud networking concepts, including VPCs, subnets, and security groups.
  • Adopting cloud security best practices, including IAM.
  • Utilizing containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Implementing serverless computing (e.g., AWS Lambda) and event-driven architecture.
  • Automating cloud infrastructure management using Infrastructure as Code (e.g., AWS CloudFormation, Terraform).
  • Scripting and automating tasks using Python, Node.js, or Java.
  • Setting up monitoring, logging, and alerting for cloud infrastructure.
  • Optimizing deployment pipelines for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
  • Implementing and managing version control using tools such as Jenkins, AWS Code Pipeline.
  • Automating provisioning and management of cloud infrastructure using code.
  • Analyzing business processes to identify opportunities for automation and implement solutions.
  • Collaborating with senior team members and business owners to deliver robust cloud-based solutions that improve the customer's experience.
  • Assisting in designing scalable and resilient cloud engineering solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Developing both front-end and back-end components for cloud-based applications.
  • Ensuring comprehensive testing, security compliance, and operational stability of solutions.
  • Supporting system resiliency through stress testing, enhancements, and ongoing assessment.
  • Ensuring that applications reflect the true state of business needs.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
  • Contributing to research and development initiatives and participate in technology skill enhancement programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficiency in cloud engineering (e.g., AWS, Azure) and software engineering best practices.
  • Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining APIs specifically tailored for cloud environments (e.g: AWS API Gateway).
  • Experience in API development, serverless computing, containerization, and orchestration.
  • Experience in automating the provisioning and management of cloud infrastructure using code using tools (e.g: AWS cloud formation templates, terraform etc).
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, Node.js, Java).
  • Solid understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience in setting up alerts, dashboards, logs for cloud infrastructure and application.
  • Analytical mindset and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and build relationships with stakeholders.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience in both cloud and hybrid infrastructure, with a focus on delivering scalable, resilient, and secure solutions.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., AWS Associate level).
  • Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) experience.
